Training for today

Training for today was established in 1986 as Michaeljohn Training Limited. In 2000 the trading name was changed to Training for today to avoid confusion with a number of other organisations calling themselves "Michaeljohn Training".

It operates from two training centres, one at its head office in Bolton and another in Prestwich, which was opened in October 2000, (Prestwich is part of the Greater Manchester Local Authority of Bury).

Both training centres have commercial hairdressing salons as well as a range of training rooms with computer facilities and broadband Internet access.

Training for today provides work-based learning in administration, care of the elderly, customer service and hairdressing. It also offers the Entry to Employment programme, the successor to Life Skills, Level 1 NVQ and the Preparatory Training programmes.

Training for today is accredited with the Investors in People standard, a national standard for improving an organisation’s performance through its people.

There are 3 Directors, 50 staff and approximately 500 learners on work based learning, funded through a contract with the Greater Manchester Learning and Skills Council (LSC).

Apart from a small percentage of individually funded training, Government funded training accounts for all of the company’s work
